Figures published by the House of Commons Library and Durham University show that since 2010, the unemployment rate in Westmorland & Lonsdale has fallen by 54.6%. Tim has thanked local businesses for their work in halving unemployment.

Our unemployment rate is amongst the lowest in the UK, with just of 0.6% of the economically active population aged 16 to 64 being unemployed. The fall in unemployment in the last year was a colossal 34.1%.

Tim said: "There has been a sustained fall in unemployment in South Lakeland since 2010, and I'm really pleased that unemployment has almost halved over that time. Despite the biggest recession in 100 years, the economy is making progress and it is encouraging that more and more people are successfully finding work locally.

"There is still more to be done, but we are going in the right direction. We are working and campaigning on jobs, investment and apprenticeships and have seen real success in the last few years."
