MP to push Rail Minister on Lakes Line electrification

4 Nov 2016

South Lakes MP Tim Farron will meet the Rail Minister in Kendal next week to push him to end delays to the Lake Lines electrification project.

Tim will emphasise the importance of the project the local area and press for the government to complete it without delay, at a meeting with Rail Minister Paul Maynard MP.

The Lib Dems managed to secure funding for the electrification project in 2014, and the original timescale would have seen the project finished by early 2017. However, the current Conservative government has pushed this back, meaning it is still years from completion.

Tim said: "This project is critical to our local area, and in particular to the tourist economy. Electrification will link the line in to the rest of the network, and enable newer trains and better services through to Manchester.

"The Conservatives are letting the South Lakes down by continually delaying these plans. I will be pushing the minister to make sure that our area is not overlooked. This project must go ahead without delay."
