MP thanks the public for not flocking to the Lake District this weekend

South Lakes MP Tim Farron has thanked the public for not rushing back to the Lake District at the weekend.

Following changes to the lockdown rules there were fears that there would be a large influx of visitors to Cumbria.

However, it's been reported that the area was largely quiet.

Tim said: "I want to say a big thank you to everyone who resisted the urge to visit Cumbria this weekend.

"Large gatherings at this time would've been a dangerous risk both for local residents and for visitors - so it's great that most people used their common sense and stayed away.

"I can't wait for the day when we can start encouraging people back to the Lakes again, but for now we continue to ask for people to wait just that little longer before rushing back to Cumbria."
