MP supports charity’s call for care after breast cancer

Local MP Tim Farron has backed a leading charity's call for people to receive the support they need to live well beyond breast cancer.

Tim recently with met with representatives from Breast Cancer Now in Parliament to support the launch of their new Care After Breast Cancer campaign.

A survey by the charity found that of almost 3,000 women with primary breast cancer, two fifths (41%) did not receive the professional support they needed to cope with the long-term effects of the disease.

In Lancashire & South Cumbria there were 1416 new cases of invasive breast cancer in 2015.

Tim has written to the Chair of the Lancashire and South Cumbria Alliance, Damian Riley, to highlight these findings and to ask what action that the Cancer Alliance is taking to help support women at the end of breast cancer treatment.

Tim said: "It is so important we support people at the end of hospital treatment so we can empower them to live life after breast cancer with confidence.

"I am calling on the Government to work with the NHS to ensure that everyone has access to the specialised, ongoing support they need after hospital treatment ends."
