MP secures meeting with minister to make case for infrastructure boost for the South Lakes
Local MP Tim Farron has secured a meeting with the business minister, Andrew Griffiths, to make the case for better infrastructure for the South Lakes to help local businesses.
During Business questions in the House of Commons last week, the minister agreed to meet with Tim to discuss what more the Government can do to help small businesses to cope with the expected big increase of visitors to the area in the wake of the Lake District becoming a World Heritage Site.
Tim said: "Our local small businesses, particularly those involved in farming and tourism, were integral to the Lake District's gaining World Heritage Site status last summer.
"This designation is set to lead to a massive increase in the number of visitors to what is already Britain's second-biggest visitor destination.
"In order for local small businesses to cope and to grow, it's vital that the Government back them with the infrastructure investment that they need.
"I look forward to meeting the minister later this month to make the case for much needed investment to improve broadband, roads and public transport."
