MP says "We must never forget" as he signs Holocaust Memorial Book

23 Jan 2014
Ahead of Holocaust Memorial Day next week, local MP Tim Farron has signed the Holocaust Educational Trust's Book of Commitment in the House of Commons.

Monday 27th January will mark the 69th anniversary of the liberation of the Nazi concentration and death campAuschwitz-Birkenau, the site of the largest mass murder in history.

Commenting, Tim said: "This day holds even greater significance for me following my visit to Auschwitz in 2009, where I was accompanied by local school students who were studying for their History A Level. It was a day that will live in my memory for the rest of my life, so it felt right to pay my tributes before the Memorial Day.

"Holocaust Memorial Day is an important opportunity to remember the victims and survivors of the Holocaust. It is vital that we never let the Holocaust be forgotten, so we can continue to honour their memory and have a permanent reminder of the horrific consequences that prejudice, anti-Semitism and racism can lead to."
