South Lakes MP Tim Farron has asked local residents to join with him and vote to support Hawkshead Primary School win a classroom worth £80,000 in a competition run by the Times Educational Supplement (TES).

In November the School entered a competition to win a classroom worth £80,000 as they need a new Pre-School building. The PreSchool, which is on the school site, is run as a charity and fundraises all year round. The existing building is in a bad state of repair.

The classroom that hopefully will be replaced currently provides pre-school childcare in the area before the children then move onto Hawkshead Primary.

The governors had already decided to start the mammoth task of fundraising to replace the building with one that is much more Eco Friendly and sustainable. This competition offers the school the opportunity to upgrade its facilities in a matter of weeks instead of years.

The school has been shortlisted from 600 entries and is now the only remaining applicant from the north in the final 6 of the competition to win a classroom/building!

Voting begins on the 10th January and will continue until the end of the month. To cast your vote please visit: http://www.tes.co.uk/building

Tim said: "I'm pleased to be supporting Hawkshead Primary and I will be voting for them as soon as I possibly can. The school is the hub of the community and plays a key role in community life. I hope that residents from throughout South Lakeland will join with me and support them in their bid for this £80,000 building. Our votes could make a massive difference to young people in Hawkshead and the surrounding villages so please do vote!"
