MP praises businesses after biggest unemployment drop in 11 years
South Lakes MP Tim Farron has praised local businesses after the Office of National Statistics (ONS) announced that Cumbria has seen the biggest drop in unemployment for eleven years.
The fall, of 449 claimants according to the ONS, represents the largest monthly fall since October 2002. The count is now the lowest it has been since December 2008.
Tim said: "This is great news and a testament to local business - backing their workers through tough times. I want to thank them for doing that. But as I always say these figures hide the fact that many jobs are low paid. Our mission must be to build on our recent successes and work to bring well paid jobs to Cumbria and especially South Lakeland. This is my number one mission and I will do everything I can to deliver it. We have had success, but must do more."
