South Lakes MP Tim Farron has urged local people to visit Windermere next Friday and take part in the free gig event being held. Tim secured a 'Big Gig' event in the South Lakes and funding from the Department of Communities of Local Government for the event.

The event, being held on Friday 12 July will run from 12:30-4:00pm and is being held at Windermere Library Gardens, Ellerthwaite, Windermere. The event is one of only two events being held in Cumbria as part of a national arts weekend of 330 events throughout the UK.

This exciting event in Windermere will be staging a performance by the Scribble New Media Orchestra. The orchestra seeks to provide a bridge between those with special educational needs and those in mainstream settings. The music will be newly composed and improvised. They will also include Klezma musicians as this event is being staged to celebrate the launch of a new much-needed arts space for young people in the area. The new arts space is to be located in the library as part of the new Lake District Holocaust project.

The public will have the opportunity to use a variety of sensory and assistive resources as part of a freely accessible workshop programme on the day. This will also include instrument making, and the chance to join in with live improvisation sessions. There will also be children's entertainers and Kosher food provided for performers and parents.

Tim said: "This promises to be a fantastic event and will help launch a much needed arts space for young people in the library.

"As soon as I knew that this project was happening I lobbied the government to make sure that the South Lakes held an event and I'm delighted that they chose Windermere to host it."
