MP meets with Rail Minister to ask for Staveley station to be made accessible for all

Local MP Tim Farron has met with the Minister for Rail, Chris Heaton-Harris, as part of a long-running campaign to improve accessibility at Staveley railway station.

The station has no disabled access and the only way to reach the platform is by walking up 41 steep steps.

The minister was sympathetic to the situation in Staveley and advised Tim to ask the rail operator Northern to bid for funding from the Access for All grant scheme.

Speaking after the meeting, Tim said: "I'm grateful to the minister for making the time to listen to our case.

"For parents with pushchairs, people in wheelchairs and mobility scooters and people who struggle with their mobility in general, Staveley station at the moment is simply not fit for purpose.

"The station serves a big community, it's situated in the national park and in a World Heritage Site for pity's sake - it's high time that it was made accessible for everyone."
