Improvements to bus services on the Cartmel Peninsula were on the agenda at a meeting this week.

During the meeting South Lakes MP Tim Farron pushed the case for a later service back from Kendal (the last bus to Cark and Cartmel currently leaves at 1.30pm) and encouraged Stagecoach to make sure they integrate their timetable with the new rail timetable for the Furness Line.

The meeting came after local campaigner Patricia Mills carried out a survey of over 100 bus users to find out their concerns with the current services.

Alongside Tim, Patricia and the Managing Director of Stagecoach Cumbria and North Lancashire, Mark Whitelocks; local councillors Eric Morrell and Gill Gardner also joined the meeting.

Speaking after the meeting, Tim said: "I'm really grateful to Mark from Stagecoach for a really productive meeting looking at how we can get a better service for local residents.

"But with more and more visitors coming to the South Lakes as a result of World Heritage Site status, it's massively important in our bid to tackle climate change that we get people off the roads in their cars and on a reliable local bus service."
