MP meets National Highways over A590 safety campaign
Cumbrian MP Tim Farron recently met with officials from National Highways to make the case for a roundabout on the A590 at Gilpin Bridge to improve safety.
In recent years there have been numerous accidents at that junction. In 2021, four people were seriously injured in a crash involving a car and a cement lorry, and in a separate incident, an 80-year-old cyclist was tragically killed.
Tim heard that the idea remains under consideration but that it is ultimately up to the Department for Transport to decide.
Meanwhile Tim also pressed the officials to commit to the proposed £1.3bn upgrade of the A66.
It comes after a Government decision on the project, which was expected last month, has now been delayed until March.
The officials reassured Tim that they remain confident that the project will go ahead.
