Local MP Tim Farron visited Heron Hill Primary School today to celebrate the Big Pedal 2017. To mark the end of the 2017 'Big Pedal' competition, the pupils came dressed as superheroes to raise money for environmental charities.

The 'Big Pedal' is an inter-school competition to encourage pupils to cycle or scoot to school. For the last two weeks, pupils, parents, younger siblings, staff and governors have cycled and scooted to school in all weathers.

Each day, the number of journeys made by bike or scooter has been logged online, and Heron Hill has been consistently in the best 10% of large primary schools taking part nationally and 5th best in the North West.

Tim met with the superheroes to admire their costumes and heard from the School Council about the Big Pedal project.

Tim said: "The Big Pedal is a great initiative, and I'd like to congratulate every single pupil from Heron Hill Primary School who took part. The school did incredibly well and the pupils should be proud. We might not normally be superheroes but there is no doubting that we can all look after ourselves by doing a bit of exercise and this is a great way to do that. I hope that the Big Pedal will have had a lasting impact by helping to change habits for good, getting pupils out of cars and onto their bikes and scooters. Cycling and scooting to school is not only healthier, it is also better for the environment."
