South Lakes MP Tim Farron has today joined with Barclays Bank staff to launch the 2011 'Support our Soldiers' Christmas parcel appeal.

'Support our Soldiers' was formed in March 2003 to encourage people to support members of the armed forces serving overseas and their families at home during the festive period.

Since 2003, the generosity of the public has meant that over 90,000 morale boosting care parcels have been sent out to those on the frontline. The parcels help to bring festive cheer to soldiers who are far away from home. The scheme also helps many families through the difficult time of having their loved ones away on tour.

Tim said, "Being able to do a little bit and send a parcel to someone serving this country is wonderful. I enjoyed joining with Barclays staff today to launch the appeal. People who serve our country are some of the best and bravest. It's great to be able to say thank you at a time when they would wish they were at home with their friends and family."
