MP joins calls to end frozen pensions for veterans abroad ahead of 75th anniversary of VE Day

Ahead of the 75th anniversary of VE Day tomorrow, South Lakes MP Tim Farron has thrown his weight behind the campaign for the Government to restore full state pensions to World War Two veterans who have moved abroad after retirement.

According to the Campaign to End Frozen Pensions, more than half a million UK state pensioners have had their pensions frozen after moving overseas, including an estimated 100,000 who served in the Armed Forces.

Tim has signed a joint letter with fellow MPs to the Work and Pensions Secretary Therese Coffey urging her to "take decisive action now and end this longstanding injustice".

Tim said: "It is totally unacceptable that people who have paid into the system all their life, many of them veterans, are being forced to live on as little as £40 a week simply because they chose to move abroad to enjoy retirement.

"I'm delighted to back the Campaign to End Frozen Pensions and would encourage MPs from right across the House to throw their support behind it too.

"On the 75th anniversary of VE Day, the Government could pay a fitting tribute to those veterans who put their lives on their line for our country by ending the pensions injustice."
