MP heralds news that Sedbergh police post could safeguard future of 72 Main Street

South Lakes MP Tim Farron has welcomed the news that a new police base will open on Main Street in Sedbergh. Tim has heralded this news as another step as securing the long term future of the building.

Tim has welcomed news that the new police facilities will be opening on 72 Main Street and will allow the Community Police Team to have a base in the centre of the area. The new facilities will allow the Community Policing Team to have a base in the heart of the community. Members of the Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO), the community group responsible for this, are hopeful that 72 Main Street will become Sedbergh's focus for advice, assistance and resources for the whole community.

In 2011, 72 Main Street was being sold by the Yorkshire Dales National Park, on the open market, but Tim and local residents campaigned to save the building for the community. After a long campaign the team were successful and it was bought by local residents in trust for the community.

Tim paid tribute to Cumbria's Police and Crime Commissioner Richard Rhodes and the management of 72 Main Street.

Tim said: "This announcement is heartening news for resident of Sedbergh. This new facility will make a difference for both 72 Main Street but also for local residents. Having the Police close at hand and visible in our community is key - this announcement will make that happen.

"The new base will be right in the heart of community and will hopefully be a responsive and dynamic service for locals".
