MP finishes “hugely successful” summer tour
South Lakes MP Tim Farron brought his annual summer tour to a close on Friday by holding street surgeries in villages across the Cartmel Peninsula.
Since he was first elected in 2005, Tim has spent time each summer holding street surgeries in the smaller towns and villages he doesn't reach with his regular advice surgeries. This year he visited almost 40 towns and villages from Grasmere to Arnside and Coniston to Dent.
Hundreds of local residents raised issues like the lack of affordable housing, difficulties with public transport (including issues with local rail services) and access to local health services.
Speaking as the tour came to an end, Tim said: "The most satisfying part of my job is getting out and about to meet local residents and help them with the issues they face.
"I'd like to say a massive thank you to everyone who came to see me whether it was to raise local issues or national concerns."
During the autumn, Tim will return to holding regular advice surgeries and monthly community Q&A sessions - more details are available at www.timfarron.co.uk/surgeries
