MP echoes NHS plea for people with non-COVID illnesses to not be put off getting the help they need

24 Apr 2020

Local MP Tim Farron is encouraging people in the South Lakes to not be put off from going to hospital if they think they are ill with something that isn't coronavirus.

According to Morecambe Bay CCG, A&E attendance in the region is down 66% on the same time last year.

Health bosses across Morecambe Bay have sent out a message this week to local people that "we're open, let us help you".

Tim said: "Those who work in our local NHS are doing an amazing job in fighting hard to keep you safe.

"But they tell me that they're worried that some people who are ill, especially those who are seriously ill with suspected heart attack, stroke or cancer, are putting off getting the urgent help they need.

"If you are worried about whether a hospital is a safe setting right now, don't - they have COVID free areas that allow you to get treatment for other things.

"If you are worried about being adding pressure on the NHS, don't - they'd rather you called 999 or went to A&E and made an honest mistake than leave it too late to save a life.

"Please don't wait until this crisis is over - get the help you need now."
