Local MP Tim Farron has welcomed the decision from Barclays to scrap plans to prevent customers from withdrawing cash at their local post office.

Tim had written to the Chief Executive numerous of times on behalf of constituents over the past two weeks, and yesterday in the House of Commons urged the Chancellor to "stand up to Barclays and demand that it remains part of that Post Office scheme".

Tim said: "I'm absolutely delighted that Barclays have shelved these ridiculous proposals.

"Having closed their branches in towns like Coniston, Ambleside, Grange, Milnthorpe and Sedbergh, this move would have been devastating for local people.

"I want to thank everyone who put pressure on Barclays over the past couple of weeks - it's another victory for community campaigning!"
