Coniston's MP Tim Farron is calling on local residents to get involved in a consultation about changes to the post office in the village.

With the support of the subpostmaster, Post Office Ltd is proposing moving the branch from its current premises to the village's petrol station. The new branch will be open longer - for the same hours as the petrol station from 7am to 10pm seven days a week.

Local residents can get involved with the consultation by checking out the website at www.postofficeviews.co.uk, calling 0845 223344 or writing to 'FREEPOST Your Comments'. The consultation runs from 25 July to 5 September.

Tim says: ''The post office is a vital part of community life in Coniston and it's extremely important that we get this right. I want to make sure that the new service meets local needs. Please do get involved in the consultation and make sure we get the post office the village needs."
