MP calls on regional development agency to safeguard jobs at Ethel Austin

9 Feb 2010

South Lakes MP Tim Farron has called on the North West Regional Development Agency to provide support to Ethel Austin and the receivers to keep the brand alive.

The North West based retailer has a shop in Kendal that is well used and the company is over 70 years old. Today Tim was told that the Kendal store will continue trading as normal while a new buyer is sought, administrators MCR said

Tim will be visiting the store in the coming days to meet the staff and listen to their concerns and offer some support.

Speaking today, Tim said: "Shops like Ethel Austin have been at the heart of market towns like Kendal for years. The North West Development Agency must act quickly to ensure that all agencies come together and allow hard working people the support and advice they need to help them back into work in the case of any redundancies at our local stores."
