MP calls on Prime Minister to resign for misleading the Queen

25 Sep 2019

Commenting on the news that the Supreme Court has ruled that Boris Johnson's suspension of parliament was 'unlawful', local MP Tim Farron said:

"I think this is a moment to completely detach ourselves from whether we think Brexit is a good thing, bad thing or indifferent.

"This is actually about the integrity of our Prime Minister.

"What 11 judges have unanimously ruled is that our sitting Prime Minister misled the Queen, which is an appalling thing to do, and misled her in order to close down democracy.

"Prime Ministers have resigned for far, far less.

"The conclusion I reach now is, for the good of his office, for the good of the country and certainly for the good of democracy, he must resign."
