South Lakes MP Tim Farron has today written to the newly appointed governors of the University of Cumbria asking them to support his campaign to rejuvenate Ambleside campus.

Tim last year led the campaign to save Ambleside Campus and he recently secured a pledge from the university to put more students on the site. But Tim believes the unique site has even more potential that could be utilised.

In the summer it was revealed that the Chair of the University of Cumbria's governing board Peter Ballard and many other board members were stepping down. In total the university is planning to appoint up to 6 new governors to replace them. The first three of those new governors have now been announced, they are Claire Hensman, Dr Hilary Crowe and Tom Drummond.

In Tim's letter he said: "Sadly in the last couple of years the university has faced tough economic times and hard decisions had to be made. I believe that many of the decisions made by the university management were correct, but others which I am sure were done with sincere convictions were just plain wrong. The 'mothballing' of Ambleside campus is one example. The University is now moving forward. This year the university achieved an underlying operating surplus of £1.8m. With the potential changes in funding this allows previous decisions to be revisited."
