MP blasts Conservatives for leaving Cumbrian businesses in limbo

19 Feb 2019

Local MP Tim Farron has slammed the Conservative Government for leaving Cumbrian businesses in limbo after Cumbria Chamber of Commerce warned that the lack of answers around a No Deal Brexit is damaging local businesses.

The Chief Executive of Cumbria Chamber of Commerce, Rob Johnston, wrote to Tim saying that an absence of clarity over issues such as staffing was jeopardising investment and growth in the county.

In response, Tim has written to the Brexit Secretary Stephen Barclay demanding answers for businesses in the South Lakes.

Tim said: "With less than 40 days to go until Britain is set to leave the European Union, it's astonishing the lack of clarity that has been given to our local businesses about what will happen if we leave without a deal.

"It's beyond ridiculous for the Conservatives to leave Cumbrian businesses in limbo like this - they need answers now."
