MP bids for better accessibility for Staveley train station

South Lakes MP Tim Farron is using a Government scheme to bid for better access to Staveley station for residents and visitors.

As part of the Government's Accessible for All programme, Tim has written to both Network Rail and Northern to nominate Staveley to be put forward to be given an accessible, step free route to the station.

Currently Staveley station has no disabled access with the only way to access the station is through walking up 41 steep steps.

Tim said: "Better access at Staveley station has been badly needed for a long time.

"It's simply unacceptable that people in wheelchairs and mums and dads with prams have no accessible route to the platform.

"It's vital that both Network Rail and Northern put forward Staveley for this scheme so that the station can be welcoming and easy to access for everyone.

Clare Hale, a Staveley resident said: "As a wheelchair user myself, it would be a significant improvement to the quality of my life to be able to use the train with my family on an equal basis to everyone else."
