MP backs residents over South Lakes TV blackouts

For the few weeks, many homes in Kendal and the surrounding area have been left without a television signal, leaving thousands without major TV channels and very frustrated.

BBC1, BBC2, ITV, Channel 4 and numerous other channels all disappeared from local screens on the evenings of the 14th, 15th and 16th of September and the TV signal has been blacking out intermittently ever since. Even though this has occurred for over ten days now, residents have still received no explanation for the problem.

The problem has been reported to Tim by dozens of local residents and after investigation Tim has been told that the blackouts are apparently due to a transmitter failure - numerous internet sources have confirmed this. The Kendal transmitter covers 7,900 homes in the South Lakes and helps to deliver service to households as far as Coniston, Carnforth and Kirkby Stephen yet it appears that little is being done to rectify the issue.

At this present time, there seems to be no information on the BBC website about the signal loss.

Tim has demanded immediate action from the BBC and the Department of Culture Media and Sport.

Commenting Tim said: "Signal has been lost for three nights running without any news on when the situation will be rectified. Local residents are being subject to a substandard service and it appears that nothing is being done to fix the problem - it isn't good enough. I am taking the matter up now with the authorities and asking them to step in to deal with the issue."
