South Lakes MP Tim Farron has backed a school uniform charter campaign run by Cumbria Rural Citizens Advice Bureau and has asked local schools to sign up too.

Cumbria Rural Citizens Advice Bureau emailed all the schools in South Lakeland last week and asked them to sign a school uniform charter which aims to make sure parents/carers know the real costs of school uniforms, facilitate support and source uniforms that are cost effective, durable and practical.

They provided details of a national Citizens Advice campaign called 'Adding Up' which seeks to reduce Child Poverty by encouraging schools to adopt 10 principles to help parents budget for school costs.

Tim said: "I'm pleased to support the campaign of Cumbria Rural Citizens Advice Bureau. I hope every school in our area will have a look at the charter and sign up. Its ideas like this that really can help parents. I know as a father of three school age children how expensive uniforms can be, any help schools can offer to families will make a big difference."
