MP backs 'Go Easy' air quality campaign
South Lakes MP has joined Cumbria County Councillor and Chair of the South Lakes local Committee Geoff Cook to back the 'Go Easy' campaign.
Although Kendal's air quality has improved, it is so poor in certain areas of the townBeezon Road, Highgate andLowther Streetareas that it exceeds recommended levels.
The Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) awarded South Lakeland District Council (SLDC) £34,000 for the Go Easy Kendal, Enjoy Kendal's Fresh Air campaign to try and combat the problem.
Tim said: "I'm delighted to back the 'Go Easy' campaign. The idea is a fantastic one - reducing one in ten journeys through town; it's about walking, car sharing and using public transport. Everybody can make a positive difference to Kendal's environment by making small but simple changes. I have pledged to get the bus more often and to walk to more events and visits.
Councillor Geoff Cook added: "It's easy for everyone to make their own contribution to improving air quality in Kendal - and every bit will help. Just log on to the web-site for some really good ideas."
