On the eve of a major county council campaign, South Lakes MP Tim Farron has asked local people to think about becoming a foster carer.

The county council currently has around 600 children in care. But with increasing numbers of children needing families, more foster carers are needed.

A campaign is about to be launched asking people to "Become part of Cumbria's biggest family".

If you are interested in further information about fostering please phone the council on 0303 333 1216 or visit www.cumbria.gov.uk/fostering/.

Tim said: "Foster carers are wonderful people, taking on a child and opening their home, hearts and lives to them. It an amazing sight - seeing a child in a warm, safe home and flourishing.

"I know that many people think about the idea of fostering, I hope that this campaign will convince people to take the extra step and get more details and then take that final step. By doing that we can help more children get the loving home they deserve."
