South Lakes MP Tim Farron has urged local people to think about becoming a school governor.

In Cumbria, there are 3,794 school governor positions, but only 3,311 are currently filled. In the South Lakes, there are 111 places open - 104 primary and seven secondary. Tim asking people to look into the idea of becoming a governor

Governors play a key part to play in raising school standards and roles include providing leadership on strategy, accountability, appointing the head teacher and involvement in appointing other staff.

Tim said: "Being a school governor is really rewarding and can make a massive difference to a school and a local community. In the past I have the privilege of being a school governor and I know you can have a real positive impact on young people in our area. I believe education, especially early years education is a silver bullet that can change lives and allow children to see that they can be anything they want to be. It allows them to lift their sights and aspirations and reach for the stars. I hope that local residents will look at the information and then take the next step of becoming a school governor."
