MP and Police and Crime Commissioner candidate to host virtual ‘town hall meeting’ on rural crime
Next Friday (5th March), South Lakes MP Tim Farron and Liberal Democrat candidate for Police and Crime Commissioner Mark Christie will host a virtual 'town hall meeting' to discuss rural crime.
The event, which will take place via Zoom from 7pm, will give local residents the opportunity to raise their experiences of rural crime and discuss with Tim and Mark what can be done to tackle it.
It comes as a survey from the Countryside Alliance found that over four in 10 (43%) people in Cumbria think that the police don't take rural crime seriously, while more than half (56%) don't think rural policing has improved since Police and Crime Commissioners were introduced back in 2012.

Tim said: "Rural crime is an ever-increasing problem which has devastating effects on people's livelihoods and mental health.
"Farmers and agricultural workers should have just as much right to feel safe and have their property protected as people living towns and cities.
"This is a big issue, but we're only going to tackle it by working together.
