South Lakes MP Tim Farron has thanked local residents after Allithwaite Primary School won IT equipment classroom worth £3,000 in a competition run by Lloyds Bank.

The school in their bid said that they wished 'to bridge the gap between our young and older people in a semi-rural community. To do this, we hope to work together to bring young and old together to learn through ICT. This, we hope, will reduce rural isolation and empower both our children and older community.' The funds will help pay for tablet computers that will used by students and local residents.

It will also give residents of the village the opportunity to meet at the school and use the equipment.

Tim said: "This is wonderful news and I want to thank the staff and parents for voting. I was pleased to sign up and vote for Allithwaite School and I know this new IT equipment will be used by the whole community and will make a big difference."
