Mark Christie selected as Liberal Democrat candidate for Cumbria Police and Crime Commissioner
The Liberal Democrats in Cumbria have selected Mark Christie to be their candidate for the Cumbria Police and Crime Commissioner election which is set to take place on May 6th.
Mark is a lecturer in Sport Development at the University of Cumbria and lives near Kendal with his young family. In his spare time he is a qualified personal trainer, leads group fitness classes and coaches archery. Mark has led on a number of community development initiatives, including fundraising for a new sports pavilion and an outdoor gym, developing new sports clubs and delivering community sports events.
Mark's top priorities include more visible community policing to tackle crime, anti-social behaviour and hate crime, working with local communities to tackle rural crime and educating young people about the dangers of committing crime from an early age.
Mark said: "I'm delighted to be selected as the Liberal Democrat candidate for Cumbria's Police and Crime Commissioner.
"People are crying out for change and desperately want to see more visible policing, particularly in our most rural areas that often feel forgotten about.
"I'm also committed to supporting victims of crime to help rebuild their lives and to work with employers to reintegrate ex-offenders into society through jobs, apprenticeships, voluntary work and education."
Cumbria's Lib Dem MP Tim Farron said: "Mark would make a first-rate Police and Crime Commissioner.
"He is totally focused on tackling the issues that local residents contact me about on a daily basis whether it's anti-social behaviour or rural crime."
