Westmorland and Lonsdale MP Tim Farron welcomed the decision by the Lib Dem conference to back his calls to oppose fracking.

Tim has long voiced concerns about fracking, and welcomed the decision by the party's conference this weekend to back his move to oppose fracking. The party called for further investment in renewable energy production and action to meet climate change targets.

Tim said: "Fracking is not the answer to the problems we face. At a time when the government is committed to reducing the UK's reliance on fossil fuels and reducing our carbon emissions following the Paris Agreement, backing fracking would be a backwards step. What the UK needs is a genuine commitment to renewable energy.

"By scrapping support for renewable energy and committing to fracking, including in national parks, the Conservatives are rolling back the green agenda which the Lib Dems fought for in government."
