The Liberal Democrats have selected local resident Andy Hull to be their candidate for the upcoming Westmorland and Furness Council by-election in the Grange and Cartmel ward.

Andy, a former Royal Marine Commando, lives in Grange and is a local business owner.

The by-election, which will be held on Thursday 2nd May, comes after the resignation of local Lib Dem councillor Pete Endsor due to family ill health.

Andy’s priorities are to work alongside local residents to improve opportunities for young people and make our roads safer. He also wants to promote the exciting projects to restore Grange Lido, and to build a walking and cycling trail across the Morecambe Bay from Arnside to Grange.

Local Lib Dem MP Tim Farron said: “I want to pay tribute to Pete Endsor who has worked tirelessly over many years for people in Grange and across the Cartmel Peninsula.

“Pete’s will be big shoes to fill, but in Andy Hull we have a brilliant candidate who will roll up his sleeves and work his socks off for local residents.

“He’ll be joining a team of local Lib Dem councillors in Sue Sanderson and Jenny Boak, who have a strong track record of getting things done – including successfully campaigning to save Grange ticket office, Haverthwaite GP surgery, and Grange ambulance, and securing vital safety improvements to the A590.”

Andy said: “I’m honoured to be standing to represent the area that I’m very proud to call home.

“Working with Sue, Jenny, Tim, and local residents, I know that we can make our community an even better place to live and work in.”
