Leaving single market will hit jobs and businesses - Farron
Leaving the single market will hit jobs and businesses, according to South Lakes MP Tim Farron. In a speech today, the Prime Minister Theresa may declared that the UK will leave the single market.
Tim said: "Theresa May has confirmed Britain is heading for a Hard Brexit. She claimed people voted to Leave the Single Market, but this was never on the ballot paper. She has made the choice to do massive damage to the British economy.
"Here in Cumbria, businesses rely on being part of the single market so they can export to our biggest trading partner without facing punitive tariffs. Local businesspeople will be rightly concerned that Theresa May has decided to wave the white flag about membership of the single market.
"Theresa May also made clear that she will deny the people a vote on the final deal. While the British parliament and the EU parliament will have a say on the deal, the people themselves will be excluded. Instead of a democratic decision by the people, this risks becoming a stitch-up by politicians. We started this process with democracy, we should end it with democracy as well."
