Government would rather chuck money down the drain on ‘Crossfail’ than invest in the North - MP

10 Dec 2018

Commenting on the news that Crossrail has received a £1.7bn bailout from the Government, South Lakes MP Tim Farron said:

"Once again we see this Government prepared to fork out billions of pounds to keep a failing project in the South East going with no finish date in sight.

"Meanwhile here in the North of England, passengers will be lucky just to find that their train that runs on time - assuming that their train is running at all.

"The Government talk a good game when it comes to investing in the North, but the honest truth is that they'd rather chuck money down the train on 'Crossfail' than trying to provide passengers with a decent train service here in Cumbria."
