Government has scrapped grammar school plans, now it must scrap school cuts - Farron

Following the news that the government has scrapped its plans to bring back grammar schools, local MP Tim Farron has called on the government to go further and scrap its planned school cuts.

The news that the government would not push ahead with plans to bring back grammar schools was revealed in an answer to a parliamentary question yesterday.

Tim said: "I welcome the news that the government won't be pushing ahead with its ideologically-driven project to bring back divisive grammar schools. However, the government must not only scrap its grammar school plans, it must also scrap its plans for massive school cuts.

"There is real anger about the Conservatives' plans for school cuts, and they must listen ad change course. Here in Cumbria the cuts could mean losing over 700 teachers, which would be devastating for our children's education. People want to live in a country where every child has a fair chance, and that means investing in education."
