'Give to poppy appeal and honour our veterans' - Farron

South Lakes MP Tim Farron has today bought his poppy and paid tribute to the Royal British Legion for their commitment to ex-servicemen from Cumbria and throughout the rest of the UK.

Every year over five million poppies and 8,000 wreaths are produced for the annual appeal. This year's Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal runs for 2 weeks from Saturday 27th October and is aiming to raise £42million nationally.

Most famously, James Cropper of Burneside manufacture the bright red paper stock for the Royal British Legion's poppies, produced each year in remembrance of those from the armed forces that have lost their lives in wars and conflicts.

Commenting Tim said: "The annual appeal serves a reminder of the sacrifice that service men and women have given, and still give, for the freedoms that we enjoy today. Buying a poppy is something everyone can do to honour the heroes that put their lives on the line to keep our nation safe.

"Like many people throughout Cumbria I wear my poppy with pride, knowing that I am doing my little bit to remember the fallen and thank the soldiers who have served or are still serving in foreign fields."
