Ambleside and Grasmere councillor Will Clark has set his sights on Helvellyn as part of a campaign to raise funds for local play parks.

Will, who was paralysed from the shoulders down in a cycling accident six years ago, is well known for his work for charities and good causes.

Last year, a team of friends and supporters pushed him in an adapted wheelchair to the summit of Snowdon. They raised £9,500 for Back Up - a UK charity that supports people affected by spinal cord injury.

Local Lib Dem councillors have been working hard to improve local play areas. Rothay Park play area in Ambleside has been completely rebuilt since it was damaged during Storm Desmond. The first stage of work at Broadgate Meadow in Grasmere has been completed thanks to grants secured by Lib Dem councillor Vivienne Rees.

Will said: "Many people will remember the challenge from last year. This time we've got our sights set on something closer to home to raise money to refurbish the play parks in Grasmere and on the Greenbank estate in Ambleside."

"Helvellyn isn't as big as Snowdon, so in theory this should be easier, but the paths are much steeper! Please get in touch if you're interesting helping out."

Will's challenge takes place on 28 July, and you can sponsor the team online at www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/getwillupahill
