Farron welcomes U-Turn on Land Registry sell-off

9 Sep 2016

South Lakes MP Tim Farron has welcomed the government's decision to shelve plans to sell off the Land Registry.

Conservative plans to sell off the Land Registry were due to be part of the Neighbourhood Planning and Infrastructure Bill. However, this element was not part of the bill that was brought before parliament this week.

An earlier move to sell off the registry was blocked by the Lib Dems during the coalition.

Tim said: "These proposals were motivated by ideology rather than evidence. They would have risked the confidence of service users whilst failing to make the government the sums promised.

"We blocked the move during our time in government and I'm glad the minister now has seen sense and dropped these plans."
