Farron Welcomes Tesco Lamb Pledge

6 Nov 2015

Tim Farron MP has welcomed the news that Tesco will no longer sell lamb products in mixed origin packs.

Tesco has agreed to end this practice following a meeting between Tesco, its processor representatives, and UK farming unions. This will enable greater clarity for consumers, who will be able to choose where they wish to purchase lamb from.

The change in policy was welcomed by the farming unions as an important step towards greater transparency in the lamb market.

The move is due to take effect from the end of February.

Tim commented: "I welcome this move from Tesco, which will provide a boost for local sheep farmers.

This will make it much easier for consumers to see where their meat is coming from and make an informed choice about what they are buying, so they can choose to support local farmers.

I hope other retailers will follow Tesco's example."
