Tim Farron MP has welcomed the latest 12 week figures showing an increase in lamb sales, describing it as a "much-needed boost" for local farmers.

The latest statistics from the Agriculture and Horticulture Development Board show that in the 12 weeks leading up to December 6th, sales of lamb were up 8% as measured by volume and 7% as measured by value, relative to the same period the previous year.

Tim said: "This growth in the lamb market is very welcome news for local farmers, many of whom have faced a difficult year.

"As we look to the year ahead, I will continue to campaign on behalf of local farmers to ensure they are given a fair deal. In particular, I am calling on the government to continue to fund the drainage pumps in the Lyth Valley, which protect the livelihoods of many local farmers."
