Less than a year since its introduction, new figures show nine companies and entrepreneurs across Westmorland & Lonsdale have benefited from nearly £40,000 worth of funding from the Government's Start Up Loans scheme.

The Start Up Loans initiative provides start-up support in the form of a repayable loan together with a business mentor for entrepreneurs across England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.

Tim said: "It's remarkable to see local companies make the most of opportunities which schemes like Start Up Loans bring.

"It's great to see small Westmorland businesses start out with solid foundations to grow, thrive and create more jobs for our communities."

"People wanting to set up a new business can often find it hard to get a loan. We need to support entrepreneurs and small businesses and ensure that good business ideas don't go to waste. It is great that the Government's Start-Up Loans scheme is supporting so many entrepreneurs across the country, and I hope we can see even greater take-up in Cumbria to ensure that local people are not missing out."
