Farron Welcomes Funds For Farmers
An emergency fund set up to help farmers deal with the effects of flooding has been welcomed by South Lakes MP Tim Farron.
The Farming Recovery Fund was launched on Friday 18th December, to help farmers affected by Storm Desmond to restore damaged agricultural land. The government estimates that over 600 farms across Cumbria and surrounding counties have been affected by the floods.
Flood-affected farmers in Cumbria, Lancashire and Northumberland who have suffered uninsurable losses can apply for Farming Recovery Fund grants of up to £20,000 via the Rural Payments Agency (RPA) to help restore soils, rebuild tracks and repair flood channels.

Tim said: "Having visited many local farmers since Storm Desmond first hit, it is very clear that they have been incredibly badly hit by the floods. I am pleased that the government has decided to offer this much-needed support to farmers.
However, the government's current plans to stop funding the Lyth Valley drainage pumps in June will leave many local farmers in a precarious situation, and I will do all I can to push the government to continue funding this after June."
