Farron welcomes big wins for South Lakeland in Budget

South Lakeland MP Tim Farron has welcomed provisions within today's budget that stand to benefit many throughout the South Lakes region while aiding in the process of a promoting a sustainable economic recovery.

These measures include plans to raise the lower threshold for income tax once again next year, which will provide yet another big tax cut for more low and middle income earners in South Lakeland going forwards. This represents a big win for the Lib Dems who have been committed to making taxation fair.

The budget also included plans to scrap the unfair increase in fuel duty that had been planned by the last Labour government and instead there will be a 1p cut in the pricing, which will be of huge benefit to those in rural areas.

Commenting afterwards, Tim said; "I'm also incredibly pleased that today did not bring a flash budget of any sort, but rather one that is focused on promoting a sustainable and responsible recovery. By preserving all of the hard work we have done in the last few months by making massive cuts, this budget takes positive steps towards ensuring a long term improvement in the economy".

"I'm also delighted about the carbon pricing system changes, which are great news for green energy companies such as Gilkes in Kendal. These changes will help to make green energy more attractive for large power companies and smaller businesses."
