Farron takes teaching assistant fight to Westminster

South Lakes MP, Tim Farron, has today tabled a parliamentary motion opposing controversial plans to cut the salaries of many local teaching assistant salaries by Cumbria County Council.

Through their strategy on single status implementation the Conservative led council have put forward plans for a significant pay cut that could result in a up to a 30% drop in income for local teaching assistants. Fears are that this unfair drop in pay might lower morale among teaching assistants that could negatively impact the quality of education for children in the Lake District.

Following a meeting recently with 100 teaching assistants from the South Lakes area, Tim promised to take the fight to protect the pay for teaching assistants to Westminster.

Speaking today Tim said: "This cut in pay for our teaching assistants is extremely unfair and can only lead to a negative impact the quality of education for our children. It makes absolutely no sense whatsoever and I am outraged that the Tory led County Council are attempting to push this through."
