Cumbrian MP, Tim Farron, is to meet with journalists for BBC Radio Cumbria on Wednesday 27th April in an attempt to protect BBC local radio from cuts to services.

Tim, who has been fighting to protect the local station from cuts proposed by the BBC, which could reduce its transmission to just breakfast and drive-time shows, was lobbied by journalists as part of National Union of Journalists BBC local radio lobby of Parliament.

Over the past year BBC local radio, which is listen to most often by the over 55s, has improved the number of people it reaches by over half a million to 7.4 million people across England. This includes over 2.5 million people who listen to no other radio stations.

Speaking today Tim said: "I am really looking forward to meeting with representatives from BBC Radio Cumbria. The station plays a massively important role in our community by providing us with up to date news, information and weather as well as many other high quality entertainment programmes.

"I hope that by learning more about the station itself and by speaking its journalists they will help me to come up with a strong plan to protect BBC Radio Cumbria from these unfair and unnecessary cuts."
