Farron says South Lakes shouldn't lose out on ITV channels

7 Dec 2009

Local MP Tim Farron has today called on the Government to ensure that South Lakeland receives the full range of ITV channels.

Tim's office has been inundated with complaints since the recent TV retuning exercise about ITV coverage in the region, and unavailability of ITV 3 and ITV 4. The problem has been caused because the transmitters in the South Lakes only carry a limited amount of space, and the Government has decided to prioritise high-definition services instead of a wide range of normal-definition channels.

Tim says, "Local residents are angry that even though they were the guinea pigs for digital switchover they don't receive the full complement of digital channels. I know of cases of people who cannot get any ITV channels at all and are severely restricted in their viewing. We pay the same license fee here as everyone else, and yet we are given a worse service. People in South Lakeland deserve so much better and I am demanding that the Government prioritise TV services for the many rather than the few."
