Farron's Work For Lone Child Refugees Recognised

Lib Dem leader Tim Farron has been thanked by Save the Children in recognition of his work highlighting the plight of unaccompanied child refugees in Europe.

Tim has long campaigned for a more humane response to the refugee crisis, and has worked with Save the Children to put pressure on the government to accept unaccompanied child refugees, which they finally agreed to earlier this month. Facing a defeat in parliament for the second time, the government gave in. The government has said it would talk to councils before announcing how many unaccompanied child refugees it would accept.

Tim said: "We are in the midst of the biggest refugee crisis Europe has seen since the Second World War, but our government has been very reluctant to do anything to address it. Having visited refugee camps across Europe and spoken with desperate people who were fleeing terror and persecution, I was determined to put pressure on the government to show some humanity and compassion towards these people. With over 10,000 unaccompanied child refugees having already gone missing, it was clear that if we did not act then even more children would be placed in danger. I'd like to thank Save the Children and everyone else who has helped to highlight the plight of refugees and force the government to act to help them."
